History of the club

In 1982 Ken Hart & Keith Bailey first came up with the idea of setting up the club when they saw some marshy land when out for a walk. They approached the owner of the land & negotiated a lease. Next they got together a group of enthusiastic anglers. This group of anglers consisting of (Ken Barb & Helen Hart, Keith Trudy & Chris Bailey, Des Hart, Nigel Robins, Mark Jarvis, Mike Gwynne, Peter Edgcombe) alongwith help from some of their families started clearing the land. A contractor was hired to dig the pond. Then the pond was allowed to fill. As it slowly filled the lilies & other plant life were introduced to the pond & the bank side. Approximately 100 trees were planted to replace the ones cleared to make way for the pond.

Money was the next thing that was needed. In order to stock the pond the committee members organized BBQs, race nights & flea markets. Some fish were purchased we also had generous donations of fish from local fisheries. Moving the fish was to prove interesting one member of the club ended up with more water in his car than in the large tanks he was moving the fish in. Matches were organized for both senior & junior members of the club to fish if they were interested. Some of the junior member later went on to become very good anglers (and a tribute to the club even tho most have left for one reason or another).
In an attempt to make things more interesting for the whole family away trips were organized to Bude & Exeter. This gave the wives & children town centres to look around or the beach to sunbathe on & the anglers a different venue to fish. The aim of the club has always been to be enjoyed by the whole family anglers and non anglers alike. Often club members can be seen fishing with there wives or girlfriends relaxing watching or reading a book on the bank side.
